Con Bella means “with beauty”… as in beautiful tone, beautiful music, beautiful young people. Con Bella is for girls only, ages 9 and up with music experience. A focus on learning to sing with beautiful tone and healthy vocal technique, more challenging music and a variety of musical styles makes Con Bella a good fit for girls who love singing in a choir, and who want to explore all kinds of music! Con Bella attends workshops, short tours and retreats, and performs in the community.

Girls age 9-14 years old at December 31
Grades 4-8
- Younger girls with prior music experience at CSMA or instrumental lessons, those who can read music. Older girls are beginners with no previous music experience.
- Focus on healthy vocal technique and musicianship, stage performance skills, choral choreography & movement.
- More intermediate music reading skills as a focus, learning to sing in harmony with other singers; music theory, sight-singing, ear training
- Sing a wide variety of music from many styles, lands and historical periods
- Leadership, solo singing on mic and public speaking opportunities
- Team building, nurturing friendships and self confidence
- Learning how to use a professional choral folder (these folders can be used throughout one’s life)
- Learning to be an independent musician and thoughtful choral artist
New music readers and beginners’ levels for theory/ sight singing program are offered, and all are encouraged to complete Book 2 by the end of their time in Con Bella.
Music and all theory supplies are provided. Choral folders are not provided.
Time: Tuesdays 4:30-6:30pm classes are 2 hours long and include theory/ sight singing program
Venue: Blakeburn Elementary School, 1040 Riverside Drive, Port Coquitlam

Formal Performances: At least 4 per year
Timberline Retreat overnight two nights/ weekend of choral workshops and leadership camp: Friday night, September 29- Sunday afternoon, October 1. Registration fee includes this mandatory retreat and all additional activities like horseback riding, archery, wall climbing, crafts.

Registration fees for Con Bella SEPTEMBER/ OCTOBER start up
Tuition: $880 if paid in full or $98 per month for 10 months includes:
- top-notch choral music instruction Sept-June
- theory materials
- music and binders
- CSMA t-shirt for new singers
- Membership in the Coastal Sound Musica Academy Society (non-profit society)
- 2 night retreat at Timberline Ranch including all activities
Uniform: Singers will be issued a CSMA white shirt and black skirt. Singers must supply their own plain black nylons and simple plain black, flat or very low-heeled shoes.
Additional items: personalized choir folder $45. This folder can last a lifetime, and is a one-time purchase.
Required fundraising:
- “In Lieu of fundraising” a tax-deductible donation of $150 required per CSMA family OR $150 minimum in pledges collected for our Sound-A-Thon or other fundraising event in October
- a minimum of TWO volunteer tree-lot shifts at our IKEA tree lot, November- December
Optional fundraising:
May include Purdy’s chocolates, bedding plants, Neufeld farms, Pub nights. These are optional, if you’d like to participate.
