Meet Les Nerling, De Coro director

Les Nerling 2013 - IMG_4552 - smallLes is excited to join the Coastal Sound team as conductor of “De Coro” – a new singing experience for adults. He is passionate about choirs and strongly believes that singing together elevates the soul, calls out the artistry in each of us, and nurtures meaningful community.

He holds a Bachelors of Music in Voice & Music Education and a Masters Degree in Choral Conducting, all from McGill University. He also has an Orchestral Conducting Diploma from the esteemed Hochschule für Musik in Vienna. Les is in his tenth year of teaching in the Vancouver School Board where he is Director of Choral Activities and the Fine Arts Department Head at Eric Hamber Secondary. He also serves as president of the Vancouver Secondary Music Teachers Association, continues his own professional development through the BC Choral Mentorship Project, and proudly sings with the Chor Leoni Men’s Choir. When not immersed in everything music, he can be found cooking for friends and family, traveling with his wife Ellen, and digging in the garden.
