Coastal Sound Chamber Choir

About Coastal Sound Chamber Choir

Coastal Sound Chamber Choir is entering its first full season this year! Thanks to the wonderful enthusiasm for its pilot program this Spring, we are thrilled to offer this ensemble for the 2024-2025 season! This auditioned SATB choir is looking for choral singers with strong musicianship, exceptional ensemble skills, and a willingness/ability to adapt to feedback. Previous choral experience and an ability to read music are both strong assets in this ensemble. We are auditioning singers ages 23 and older.

Under the direction of Will de Sousa, Coastal Sound Chamber Choir strives to create opportunities for singers to grow as artists and individuals, and gain a sense of belonging through involvement in a welcoming community. The environment Will and his singers create together is built on empathy, dedication, and authenticity.

Vocal Assessment & Placement Interview Process

Auditions are friendly and welcoming – our goal is to make sure that singers are placed where they will have the most success in our choirs! The audition will consist mainly of singing in a quartet on both a prepared piece sent in advance, and a piece to be sightread in the audition. Preparation is a key element of this group, as there will be practice assignments weekly, so the prepared piece will be treated as one of the most important parts of the audition. The pieces will both be rehearsed in the audition after you have sung them through, to see how quickly everyone can respond to feedback, and pick up new information. There will also be brief vocal exercises to get a sense of range and technique.

For the Chamber Choir, commitment is an essential part of participation. All singers receive a calendar of events for the full year in September, and members will be required to attend all performances, workshops and rehearsals throughout the year.

Through the auditions for this group we are looking for choral singers with strong musicianship, exceptional ensemble skills, and a willingness/ability to adapt to feedback. Previous choral experience and an ability to read music are both strong assets in this ensemble.

Auditions will be done in person, and are conducted in groups of 4 (1 Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass for each group). Auditions will last less than 30 minutes.

We will be accepting new singers to start in September.  We look forward to meeting you
