Coquitlam BC – February 10, 2017

The Canadian Chamber Choir performs with Coastal Sound Choirs

The Canadian Chamber Choir/Chɶur de chambre du Canada (CCC) will be in the lower mainland for workshops on February 24th and 25th, and performances throughout the region.

On Saturday February 25th the CCC joins choral forces with three choirs from Coastal Sound Music Academy for “A Choral Celebration from Coast to Coast”, taking place at Canadian Memorial United Church at 1806 W. 15th Avenue, Vancouver.

The concert with Coastal Sound will include repertoire from the CCC’s Juno Award-nominated album “Sacred Reflections of Canada – A Canadian Mass”, such as Tabula Rasa by Don MacDonald and Gloria! by Tobin Stokes – both of whom call BC home. Other BC composers like Brian Tate, Bruce Sled, Tim Corlis and Stephen Hatfield will also be featured.

The all-Canadian choral program has been thoughtfully woven to reflect the history, geography and changing cityscapes of this land. For example, three generations of Lil’wat singers who are members of the Coastal Sound organization, will perform a Women’s Warrior song to illustrate how the early French-speaking Voyageurs relied on indigenous hospitality and knowledge in order to survive.

Coastal Sound artistic director Diana Clark is a passionate advocate for Canadian choral music, and is thrilled at the collaboration and connection between the choirs. “It’s a rare treat to have the Canadian Chamber Choir here! Listeners will find the varied all-Canadian program interesting and accessible. We are also grateful for the exceptional opportunity for Coastal Sound singers in the Children’s, Youth and Adult choirs to learn from some of Canada’s finest choral singers.”

The Canadian Chamber Choir tour also includes workshops for local singers and conductors of all ages and stages. Friday, February 24 has the CCC sharing their expertise in SD43 as part of the professional development day, and the morning of February 25th they are at Vancouver Academy of Music for a public workshop on healthy singing for life.

Tickets for A Choral Celebration from Coast to Coast are available online at www.coastalsoundmusic.com. Adult $22, Student/Senior $17 or Child (12 and under) $10.  Group Rates are available for 10 or more people.  Contact admin@coastalsoundmusic.com for more details.
