Coquitlam BC, February 6th, 2015.— Beat these dreary grey days by immersing yourself in luminous sound in a spectacular and inspiring acoustic space, Saturday, February 28th at 7pm at St. Andrew’s-Wesley Church.
The Coastal Sound Music Academy presents As The Rain Hides The Starsa choral concert featuring the world premiere of a new work for choirs by Vancouver composer Kristopher Fulton and all seven of the award winning and entertaining Coastal Sound Choirs.
In honour of the Coastal Sound’s 25th Anniversary last year, Kristopher Fulton was commissioned to compose a piece that purposely brought together Coastal Sound Children’s, Youth and DeCoro choirs. Diana Clark, Artistic Director, couldn’t be more thrilled with the new work. “Fulton’s piece is stunningly beautiful, lush with word painting where the music imitates the literal meaning of the text. There are misty textures then words emerge and trail off again, just as the text suggests: the rain hides the stars.”
Fulton is a Vancouver composer who has studied both music composition and design. Aside from many commissions he has been involved in scoring films in Vancouver, Toronto, Los Angeles and New York with two being official selections for Cannes Film Festival.
“By combining younger and older voices, by writing a new setting for an ancient text, by showing how each part moves from foreground to background, we can somehow manifest the idea we can all move through life together. We hold each other’s hands, tightly if need be, each of us taking the lead when we feel strong or letting the other lead when we cannot.” says Fulton of his latest work for Coastal Sound.
“We are eager to have audiences hear this sublime world premiere. Canadian choral music is thriving,” enthuses Clark. An unpublished work by Vancouver’s own Brian Tate, who is much loved for his gospel and world music inspired works, a surprise audience sing along, and favorite songs old and new, rounds out the program.
