Forget that bummer Canucks game tonight… Coastal Sound Choirs have some winning news:
Children’s Choir, the Women’s Choir and the Youth Choir were all chosen as “best in class” at the Vancouver Kiwanis Festival this past April. Today, we received word that all THREE of our choirs have won their classes at the Performing Arts BC Festival!
Here are the provincial winners:
Class #100, Honourable Barbara A Hagerman
Winner – Coastal Sound Women’s Choir, self directed
Class #105, Dr. & Mrs. J.F.K. English
Winner – Coastal Sound Children’s Choir, Conductor: Diana Clark
Class #109, Barbara Clark
Winner – Coastal Sound Youth Choir, Conductor: Carrie Tennant
AND there is more big news:
Coastal Sound Youth Choir was awarded the Phyllis Schuldt Award for the most outstanding performance in the Choral Classes at the Provincial Festival – Coastal Sound Youth Choir, Conductor: Carrie Tennant, for ‘Abendlied’
MORE wonderful news: Carrie entered the Youth Choir in the National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs (formerly known as the CBC Choral Competition)… and they have been selected as finalists in the competition! Winners will be announced in July and will be broadcast on the CBC. Quite an accomplishment to be a finalist!
We are extremely proud of our singers, and grateful for the dedication and commitment to musical excellence that our singers and families demonstrate. Now, these same choirs will be advanced to the National level festival, which is adjudicated by the same recordings again, with results announced mid summer.
These accolades and awards come after years of exceptional, healthy vocal training and choral music coaching, along with sensitive piano accompanists provided by Coastal Sound Artistic Team members. Congratulations singers, directors and accompanists!
